Time is racing by…

If you are new here, welcome to the newsletter. If you are not new, welcome back to the August edition of this little newsletter/weird diary of mine that everyone gets to read. Anyways, this month has been really really fun. I would consider it a vacation month, although I also did get a lot of work done. But I attended a lot of cool events as well and so overall it feels like a vacation. Maybe this is also still a habit from my university times, where August was always the last month of summer break. But this year, there is no university anymore, so also no summer break…or is now my whole life going to be a summer break? I don’t know, I tell you how I feel about that next month, which will be the first month of really actively not attending university anymore. But enough blabbering, let me tell you about all the cool things that happened :)

The month definitely started on a high, with me going to see The Weeknd live in concert together with my sister and her boyfriend (like they came with me, they were not part of the concert). I have been a big fan of The Weeknd’s work for a couple of years now, I think he is much more innovative then a lot of people give him credit for - I think I might also be one of the only people on this planet who actually loved his TV-Show “The Idol”…if you also like it please let me know, it can’t be that I am the only one. Anyways, with this ALLEGEDLY being his last tour as The Weeknd, I felt like it was time to see him live.

But of course I did not just go to enjoy the show…who am I to do something or go somewhere without working ??? So I took a little analog camera and my iPhone and tried to take some cool pictures. And I have to say, I am really happy with the results. Halfway through the concert I started cheating a bit with taking pictures of the LED screen, but in my opinion that is just in the spirit of apparently every photographer this year, at least during the World Cup. And if they can do it as a protest, I can also do that. I just have to find something to protest against, but that can’t be so hard in the current world…you know what, pick something yourself that you think I was protesting, lets make it a community protest.
Anyways there will be a YouTube video coming out about the pictures and the process next Friday, but that is technically in September so I will remind you about it in the next edition.

After the concert, I got sick and needed to stay in bed for a full week, which this time actually meant not working. So naturally I got really bored. Which also meant I got to watch 2 new TV shows, I read two books AND I started getting into food fermentation…I don’t know if this newsletter is also for these type of news or only for work related things, but you know what? It is my newsletter, who is gonna stop me! I watched “House of the Dragon” and “The Shards” but honestly I am not sure if I can recommend either. What I definitely can recommend are the books I read. I finally finished a book I was reading called “essentialism”, which talks about essentialism…GENIUS right? - I am not gonna explain that concept, read it yourself! The other book I read was called “84 Charing Cross Road”, which is entirely told through letters exchanged between a writer in New York and a book salesman in London. It is a really different read than anything I have read before and I really couldn’t put down the book until I was done. And that should count as a good book I believe.

Food fermentation also got really intriguing to me while I was sick and bored, but so far the first thing I tried got moldy because I didn’t finish reading the instructions…but now I am about to finish my second trial batch so fingers crossed that it will work this time around (at least this time I finished the instructions before trying, so I am hopeful…) I am still learning!!! - And talking about learning, I am finally learning how to DJ! I don’t know why I never really took the time to do it before, in my opinion it is such a vital part of making electronic music, especially because I love to perform live. And come on, you have to admit being a DJ is kind of a dream job. You get paid a shitload of money to show music to other people. And you can even promote and play your own music. I do the same thing whenever I drive with people in the car, and they don’t pay me!!! And the thing I still don’t get about DJs…WHY THE HELL DO THEY NEVER NEED TO BRING EQUIPMENT?? WHY DO VENUES ALWAYS HAVE ALL THE CDJs BUT NEVER A PIANO OR A DRUM SET?!?! Another thing to protest, however maybe slightly less important than other things…

Funnily enough this month was also really FILLED with racing. I got to go to watch the DTM race at the Nürburgring, as well as the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. But I will not tell you about these. I made a video where I take you along, so go watch that instead. RIGHT NOW. After that you can come back and continue reading.

Now that you definitely did that, we can continue. However I just wanted to share that I am currently also working on another video talking about why I love motorsport and why you should love it too, if you do not already. It also will be coming out in September (or even October? maybe?) but I am indeed really excited so I wanted to tell you about it so that you can be just as excited as I am.

New Subheading: More videos and more exciting stuff ahead.

Alright yea this is great, I do like subheadings already, then I can save myself from all the weird transitions and introductions…great invention, I am a big fan.

This month I also released two more videos! One was a little Behind the Scenes into making the Brand Trailer for CHMLN, the other one was THE FIRST SONG from my graduation concert Head in the Clouds!!! Well, technically the sixth song we played, but like the first one now available to watch back… you know what I mean! I really got emotional while editing this one. The whole evening was such a rush in my memory, that it was really nice to now be able to watch it back, to see it from different perspectives, relive the moments and everything. The thing that really got me though was seeing the joy of the other people. Not only the audience, but even more importantly the players. I really felt like the band enjoyed being there, enjoyed playing and enjoyed celebrating this moment together…and to be honest, this is all I ever wanted to achieve with this show. So if you haven’t watched it yet, or wanna watch it again, please do so. And look at faces please, the world can really use some more smiles right now.

This feels like a good point to end this newsletter. But I won’t just yet. hehehe

Because talking about concerts there is one more thing I would like to share with you. It is currently still more an egg than it is a chicken, but it is a vision and I am working to make it a reality. I am planning to do a concert evening together with electronic music artists from my label “Petite Victory Collective” as well as with dancers and visual artists from ArtEZ. Bringing the party to Arnhem. And this month I had a first meeting with the team from the Willemeen to make this a reality in the early spring of 2027. So there is plenty of time, and still a lot of uncertainties. But again, I am excited about this so I will share it with you. Because if I write it down here, it definitely needs to happen, I don’t want to let you guys down <3
